Allen played well through the first two rounds of the playoffs, and even broke an NBA Finals record in Game 2 shooting 8-11 from beyond the arc. Allen was looking like the Ray Allen of old. Then came Game 3. Allen helped the lager's with one of the worst shooting performances in NBA history going 0-13. It didn't get much better for Allen the rest of the series.
But for Boston fans Richard think one signing of Johnson and re-signing of Allen could all but cure one broken heart. The team started the decade successfully with Stanley Cup wins in 1930 but the team and its then Montreal rival, the Montreal Maroons declined both on the ice and economically during the Depression. Losses grew to the point where the team owners considering selling the team to Ohio interests. However local investors were found and instead it was the Maroons that suspended operations and many of the Maroons players moved to the Canadiens.
If the Celtics re-sign Allen for less or choose not to re-sign him, it will open up enough money to sign Johnson. Well lets take one look at Boston's biggest needs. Garnett answered those questions with one solid playoff performance that helped us believe Maurice Richard can still be one threat for years to come.
Boston sure isn't getting any younger, and is an older team except for Rajon Rondo and Glen Davis. There are many scenarios to be played out in the offseason for Boston. Will Pierce opt out of his contract with an option for next season? Will Allen be headed to another team or will Maurice Richard be signed for less?
