On the morning of September 8,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the International Investment Forum, dubbed the “soul” of the CIFIT, opened in the Multi-function Hall of the Xiamen International Conference and Exhibition Center. Madam Wu Yi, member of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee and Vice Premier of the State Council, delivered the keynote speech on the Forum.
Madam Wu stated that unswerving reform and opening-up represents China’s established fundamental policy. She cited ample and solid figures to illustrate the remarkable achievements and huge strides that China has made since China adopted reform and opening-up policies. She said that China will continue to accord a high priority to the optimization of the structure of foreign capital,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], seek foreign investment of greater quality and efficiency, encourage foreign investors to increase investment in China’s central, western and northeastern regions, forge ahead with “westward business expansion” project, encourage open-style eastern industries and mature labor or resources-intensive industries and processing trade to expand into the central and western regions. Madam Wu pledged that China will take advantage of its huge talent pool to build an important destination for the service outsourcing industry. She stressed that China will make stronger efforts to improve the investment environment, protect the legitimate rights and interests of domestic and international investors, and strengthen the protection of intellectual property rights, and that China continue its mutually beneficially opening-up strategies and grow together with the rest of the world.
Pascal Lamy, Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO); Supachai Panitchpakdi,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Secretary-General of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD); Kandeh Yumkella, the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO); Qiu Xiaohua, Director of China’s National Bureau of Statistics; and Awad Ahmed al-Jaz, Minister of Energy and Mines of Sudan shared their insights from different perspectives Bo Xilai,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Minister of Commerce, and Zhang Xiaoqiang,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Vice Director the National Development and Reform Commission sent in written messages. The Forum was presided over by Ma Xiuhong, Vice Minister of Commerce.
