You're seeing the quarterbacks going down, and you're seeing the
check-downs. Those are the things you want from the [opposing]
offense, and we've been getting that. We've been getting real good
results on third down.
While nobody will compare the 2011 version to the 2011 defense,
it could prove to be as nice or better than the unit that led the Bears to the Super Bowl after the

''This is the best defense I've been on,'' linebacker Brian
Urlacher said. ''I've got to say that. We fly around, and this is
definitely the most talented [defense] from top to bottom. We're
stacked.''
Other keys to the success of Rod Marinelli's unit have been its
ability to create turnovers and consistently snuff the run with
only seven men in the box, which is no easy task.
The Bears' defense is difficult to
gauge because it has no overwhelming signature. They don't attack
opposing quarterbacks like dominant defenses typically do. In fact,
until their six-sack performance against the Dolphins' battered
line, the Bears were ranked 30th in sacks per
pass attempt. What they have done well this year is what they were
unable to do last year: get off the field.
Michael Vick is redefining the quarterback position. His
stunning six-touchdown performance against the Redskins put his
newfound maturity on center stage. While he was less spectacular
against the Giants, he's no longer one runner who plays quarterback.
He's one quarterback who runs like no other. If the Bears' defense is looking to prove
it's truly dominant, Sunday is the time to do it.
''Are we one great defense? I can't say we are one great defense,
but we are one very resilient defense.''
