New team at the Department for Education
The Tory MP Nick Gibb has taken over the job he previously shadowed to become Minister of State for Schools.Michael Gove,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], who is the MP for Surrey Heath, is now the secretary of state, also after shadowing the position. Before entering parliament in 2005 he was a journalist, whose work included being a reporter for BBC television and an assistant editor of The Times. Born in Edinburgh in 1967, he was educated at Robert Gordon’s College, Aberdeen and Lady Margaret Hall, Oxford University.Nick Gibb has been MP for Bognor Regis and Littlehampton since 1997 and has been a shadow education minister since 2005.Born in 1960, he was educated at Maidstone Grammar School, Roundhay School, Leeds, Thornes House School, Wakefield and Durham University. He worked as a chartered accountant at KPMG until his election to parliament.Nick Gibb’s policy responsibilities will include admissions, behaviour and attendance,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], assessment and key stage tests, qualifications and reform of the National Curriculum.The newly ennobled Conservative peer, Lord Hill of Oareford, will be Nick Gibb’s Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Schools. Born in 1960, Jonathan Hill was educated at Highgate School and Trinity College, Cambridge.He was a Conservative government adviser in the 1980s and 1990s and has since worked in Westminster as a public relations consultant. His responsibilities will include academies, free schools, Ofsted, school improvement, funding, and teachers and workforce issues.Born in 1974, Sarah Teather was the youngest MP in Britain when she was elected as MP for Brent East in 2003. She has been a Liberal Democratic spokesperson on education and before becoming an MP worked as a health and social policy analyst for Macmillan Cancer Relief. She read Natural Sciences at St John’s College, Cambridge after attending Leicester Grammar School.As minister for children and families, Sarah Teather will include among her education responsibilities early learning,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], healthy schools and SEN. Her parliamentary under-secretary is Tim Loughton, who has been the Conservative MP for East Worthing and Shoreham since 1997. Before being elected he was a fund manager in the City of London.Born in 1962, he was educated at The Priory School, Lewes, the University of Warwick and Clare College, Cambridge. He has been shadow children’s minister since 2003 and will take on responsibilities for child welfare, including the Vetting and Barring Scheme.
The exclusionThe head teacher wrote to the parents of R and F telling them that neither R nor F could come back to school, but that they would be given help in completing their course at home. He should, of course, have told the parents immediately, ideally by telephone followed by a letter, of their right to make representations to the governing body.
